This is the first post of many to follow, in which I will post ACTUAL SPEEDS of my Cobalt Broadband service, as opposed to the PROMISED speeds of “up to 3MB both ways” as stated by Cobalt. I will use a variety of online speedtests from different sources to be as true, objective, and accurate as possible.
Today at 1:30pm as measured by internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/
download = 1.79 Mbps
upload = 182 kbps
Quality of Service = 76%
As you can see, the upload speed is barely better than dialup, and only 10% of the download. As time goes by on this blog, you will see this is fairly typical of their service in my experience, and renders many things that you would normally use the internet for as impossible i.e. online gaming (Xbox or Playstation), streaming movies (like Netflix), or listening to web radio stations.
Here’s a second test, utilizing http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ performed at 1:40pm:
download = 2.05 Mbps
upload = 0.30 Mbps
Again, an UNUSABLE upload speed.
